HAMLET highlights “An AI of Our Own” at the PublicSpaces Conference

June 5 @ 1:20 pm - 1:55 pm

HAMLET is pleased to highlight the keynote “An AI of Our Own”, taking place on 5 June 2026 as part of the PublicSpaces Conference.

Presented by Tatenda Tavingeyi, Project Coordinator at An AI of Our Own (AAOO), the session explores alternative approaches to artificial intelligence that place communities, local knowledge systems and cultural heritage at the center of technological development.

The keynote will examine how ethical and community-governed AI models can provide inclusive alternatives to extractive data practices, while supporting cultural preservation, participation and sustainable innovation. Drawing on experiences from community-based initiatives and indigenous knowledge contexts, the discussion will offer valuable insights into building AI systems that are rooted in local realities and designed to serve diverse communities.

The themes explored in the session closely align with HAMLET’s mission to promote human-centered and responsible AI for the Cultural and Creative Industries.
